Gassho Meditation

Gassho means 2 hands coming together. Doctor Usui called this technique, the first pillar of Reiki. He practised it twice a day, morning and evening. He would sit in Gassho position and repeat the Reiki principles out loud and to his heart.

Sit cross legged, or in a chair, with your back straight and your head tipped slightly downrward. Bring your hands together (palm to palm) next to your heart. Say to your heart out loud, or to yourself

This is the secret art of inviting happiness.

This is the miraculous medicine of all diseases

then say:

Just for today I will not worry.

Imagine any worries you have or have had physically floating away from the area around your head. If any worries come into your mind, accept them, then gently help them to float away.

Then say:

Just for today I will not anger.

Imagine any anger or fears physically floating away from your solarplexus and stomach chakras.

Then say:

Just for today I will be grateful.

Think about something you like in the here and now, feel yourself enjoy this and be thankful for it, notice the feeling this creates in you.

Then say:

Just for today I will be kind to everyone I meet.

Feel kindly towards yourself and those close to you, and everyone you meet that day.

Then say:

Just for today I will work hard at my studies.

Say to yourself, I will work hard at my meditation practice today.

Sit quietly in the energy you have created, for as llong as feels natural. this can be a few moments or much longer.
